FREESTYLE REPERTORY THEATRE
Improvisational Theatre

This New York-based
improvisational troupe of classically trained actors uses teamwork, ideas
from the audience and audience volunteers to create unbelievably imaginative
on-the-spot scenes.
TheaterSports: Improv Your Mind (Grades K-12)
This high-energy program is designed and presented as a competitive sport.
Two teams of actors challenge each other to create scenes, songs, stories
and poems, based on suggestions from the audience. It's positive, creative,
and fun for all ages, but seeing is believing. Length: 45 minutes
Pair of Performances: $1350
IMPROV YOUR MIND!
GOAL: To introduce the students to the art of theatrical collaboration
and to give them techniques for working together creatively. Freestyle
sends two teaching artists into the classroom to guide and encourage the
students to explore their creativity through the improvisational skills
of teamwork and cooperation, creative risk-taking and trusting their "first
idea". It's an exciting and engaging way to beef up student's confidence,
improve their communication and collaboration skills, increase vocabulary,
and inspire creativity.
THE WRITE STUFF
GOAL: To encourage students, using adaptations of improvisation games,
to accept their instinctual choices for character, setting and action
and to commit to those choices on the written page following the narrative
techniques Freestyle uses in its own creative process. Freestyle sends
two teaching artists into the classroom to guide and inspire the students
to spontaneously create rough drafts of stories, getting their ideas down
on paper quickly before they disappear in premature self-editing. The
students are encouraged to imagine the environment of their story, to
develop the characters that inhabit that environment and to build the
narrative structure following the basic story-telling technique that Freestyle
utilizes in its creative process.
2 Workshops: $650
