Narrative Writing and Song Writing through Visual Arts
(Grades 2-6) NEW
Young Audiences Artists Tom Lee and Mike Kachuba in
collaboration with the New Britain Museum of American Art
conduct classroom workshops where they assist students in
creating writing through the investigation of images from the
collection of the New Britain Museum of American Art. Through a
facilitated discussion using visual thinking strategies, students
will connect to the creative process of writing and create a story or
a piece of music of their own. Length: 45 minutes

Residency Outline:
Day 1: Visual Thinking and Narrative Writing with Tom Lee
Day 2: Creating a Song from Narrative Writing with Mike Kachuba
Day 3: Using the lyric Model, students will develop the melody
Day 4: (Optional) Song Recording on a CD
3 Days/4 sessions per day
*During a visit to the New Britain Museum of American Art, one
or both artists can meet your class at the museum and work with
them on-site!
