REX FOWLER

 Rex Fowler, lead singer and principle songwriter of the legendary folk/rock duo Aztec Two-Step, has now joined our roster.  Along with his partner Neal Shulman, Rex has performed worldwide, been critically acclaimed in major U.S. newspapers, reviewed in Rolling Stone Magazine and appeared on numerous radio and TV shows, including The World Cafe and David Letterman.  Rex has also performed on such prestigious U.S. stages as New York City’s Lincoln Center & Carnegie Hall • the Berkshire’s Tanglewood & Boston’s Symphony Hall • Saratoga Performing Arts Center and the Kerrville, Falcon Ridge, Winnipeg & Philadelphia Folk Festivals • Rex has also played in concert with some amazing artists including America • The Beach Boys • Bill Cosby • Bruce Springsteen • The Band • Jackson Browne • Carly Simon • Judy Collins • and Talking Heads to name just a few.

 

Fractured Fairy Tales & Folk Songs Workshop (Grades K-6)

Audience Size-50 students

 Rex will demonstrate the origins and inspiration for his songs such as: The Ballad of Humpty Dumpty & Cinderella, You Do The Bakin’, Rabbit in the Moon, as well as a few other of his famous hits from the 70’s. He will also perform songs by other master songwriters including: John Lennon & Paul McCartney, Neil Young, Paul Simon, and Donovan.   The artist encourages children to realize that their personal experiences are rich resources for expressing their creativity whether it be in words, music, fine art, etc. The students will have the opportunity to help Rex rewrite songs based on their own experiences, intermingled with fairy and folk tales.

 

Songs from the Stratosphere Workshop(Grades 4-8)

Audience Size-50 Students

Storyelling and Songs workshop designed to intermingle with classroom science curriculum pertaining to astronomy. Rex will learn how the solar system enters into the creative songwriting process. He will utilize curriculum related resources and materials including visual props and anecdotal experiences relating to each song’s lyric.  The artist will select appropriate songs that will connect to the science curriculum. Students will learn that creative inspirations can also be drawn from many diverse sources, not just personal experience.

 

Rex Fowler Performs (Grades K-12)

Audience Size: 250 

In addition to these intimate classroom sessions, Rex also excels in school assembly, gymnasium, and theatre performances for kids K-12, including parents if so desired.  In this setting Rex will draw on his vast career-defining songwriting and performance skills which include a synopsis of the legendary American songwriters and poets Stephen Foster, Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Allen Ginsberg, and Bob Dylan.
