SURCARI
Music of South America

SURCARI derives its name by combining sur, the Spanish word for south (as in Suramérica), and Cari, the first four letters of the word Caribbean. The members of SURCARI are originally from Chile, Ecuador, and Puerto Rico. SURCARI's extensive repertoire is drawn from the group's many artistic influences (classical, folk, afro, Latin jazz, world, and flamenco). Their concerts consist of their own original compositions as well as sparkling arrangements of traditional and contemporary Latin American, Andean, Afro-Caribbean, Spanish, and world music. Surcari was selected to the Presentation Roster of the CT Commission on Culture and Tourism.
