SUSAN ROSANO

Susan E, Rosano holds a masters degree from
Wesleyan University in Liberal Studies, with a concentration in visual
arts. She is a Master Teaching Artist with the CT Commission on Culture
as an Expressive Arts Therapist, Artist and Dance & Movement
Specialist, working with children
with special needs. Ms. Rosano is a winner of the 2006 Guilford Arts Awards
“Year of the Child” for her work initiating expressive arts
programs throughout Connecticut for organizations such as The Kennedy
Center, CT VNA Hospice & Pedi Pal programs, Yale Children’s
Hospital, many CT schools and special needs facilities. Ms. Rosano has
a wide range of experience in bringing poetry, dance, and visual arts
to children in hospital and school settings for the purpose of self expression
and healing creativity. Susan has worked with children who are autistic,
blind, deaf, terminally ill and many other
populations of children with
special healthcare needs. She has also presented workshops at conferences
through out New England
to parents, teachers and health
care workers on using the arts with special needs students.
Self Expression through Dance (Grades K-6)
Using props such as balls, scarves or other fun items, Susan will lead
students through breathing and stretching and sensory
integration dance. Students
will practice their socialization and transition skills in this workshop
focusing on dance and movement

Poems of the Heart (Grades 2-8)
Using subject prompts: A Treasured Memory, When I Grow Old, My Real Name
Is, students will be guided through a writing experience that will help
them express their feelings in words. Poems will be shared and students
will share the gift of their writing
to others in their class or
in their lives outside of school. Length: 45 Minutes
Self Expression through Visual Arts (Grades 2-8)
Using color, line and form, students will be guides through a drawing
exercise that will help them express their hopes, emotions and self-image.
Create a self-portrait collage using representative drawings or draw a
landscape of your favorite place and how to
get there. Length: 45 Minutes

A Day in the Life of Chris (Teachers and Parents)
This professional development workshop teaches adults about what it is
like to be a child with special needs and talks about the common problems
their families encounter as the advocate of their child. Teachers will
learn about the everyday home and school life of a child with special
needs and their abilities. Length: 2 Hours
